Meet Angie, Studio Owner and Teacher
A native of Minneapolis, I began studying music at the Yamaha Music School at the age of four, where I learned the foundations of rhythm, melody, and harmony. I began private piano lessons at age five and added private violin lessons at age six. Throughout junior high and high school, I was involved in numerous music ensembles and won several music competitions in both violin and piano. Some of my favorite high school memories include performances with the Minnesota Youth Symphony's top orchestra, winning two concerto competitions at the MacPhail Center for Music, and playing in the pit orchestra for my high school's annual musical.
I earned my Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University, where I studied with Bayla Keyes and my Master of Music degree at Rice University, where I studied with Kathleen Winkler. While at Rice University, I took additional weekly private lessons with Raphael Fliegel (former concertmaster of the Houston Symphony Orchestra), with whom I specifically studied orchestral excerpts.
As a chamber musician, I performed live on Boston's WGBH Radio and at the Boston Symphony Orchestra Open House. In 2003, I traveled to Moscow, Russia to collaborate with the Russian Modern Orchestra to perform concerts, one of which was presented in honor of the US Ambassador.

Currently, I can be seen performing around Denver with various organizations including Central City Opera and Opera Colorado.
I joined the staff of the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestras in 2014. I am currently the conductor of the top ensemble, the Symphony orchestra, as well as director of the Spectrum Ensemble. I teach violin lessons out of my home studio in Centennial, which is located near the intersection of County Line and South Broadway. Since opening my Littleton studio seven years ago, I am proud that my students are represented in the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra, Denver Young Artist Orchestras, Colorado All-State Orchestra, Continental League Honor Orchestra, and Jefferson County All-County Honors Orchestras, among others. Many of my students hold leadership positions in their school orchestras in the Centennial, Highlands Ranch, and Littleton school districts. I live in Centennial with my husband and three children. My favorite non-musical pastimes include cooking, gardening, board games, and spending time with my family. |
“My daughter started violin at the age of 7 with a strict Russian School methodology. It was usually what mistakes you made rather than what you did well and how to improve. After starting with Angie, my daughter learned to open up and take more risks. No longer was the violin about making beautiful notes, it was about playing beautiful music. My daughter is very happy that she switched teachers and now is enjoying playing the violin!” -Kim (former studio parent) |
